In Gujarat, 'fully vaccinated' alert 18 days after death

AHMEDABAD: The Suthar family in Deesa of Banaskantha, a tribal dominated district in Gujarat, is reeling under alerts of vaccination bloopers. These include the deceased grandfather being pronounced "fully vaccinated", the mother getting her vaccine dose without actually getting the jab and the phone numbers of their sons being registered in the names of some women.
The biggest shocker for the family was the grandfather, Raghanath Suthar, getting fully vaccinated recently on June 8, a good 18 days after he died of age-related complications on March 20. "We had got an alert of my grandfather getting his first dose of vaccine on March 8 but that time we did not pay much attention as dadaji was bedridden with fracture and other age-related complications," said Raghanath's grandson Dilip Suthar. "We got apprehensive of some mistake or irregularity only when we received a message of him getting fully vaccinated after his death. There is surely some irregularity in the system somewhere," said Dilip.
Dilip said he and his brother Vinod took the vaccine on May 1, the day when India opened vaccination for 18-44 age group, as an offline candidate. Now when Dilip tries to check his vaccination status, his phone number opens registration on Co-Win in the name of Meena Chamunda Suthar! "I am apprehensive that this may mar my access to a vaccination certificate which will be required to prove one's vaccination status," said Suthar. His cousin Praveen's phone number is also registered in the name of another woman.
