Pune Police Commissioner Amitabh Gupta said on Thursday that while the time limit for movement, as per the five-level unlocking plan, will be 5 pm in Pune city, barricading of roads will start at 6.30 pm to ensure there are no traffic snarls at checkpoints.
The state government rolled out a plan to implement a five-level plan to ease restrictions across administrative units, based on case positivity rate and percentage of oxygen bed occupancy, respectively. Level 5 being the areas with the strictest restrictions and least relaxation. The Pune district administration has said areas under municipal corporations of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad have been classified as Level 3, while areas under remaining Pune district — which include rural areas and municipal councils — have been classified as Level 4. The implementation of these norms began from June 7.

Speaking about movement in public places and roads, Gupta said, “As per norms for units under Level 3, to which Pune currently belongs, establishments are allowed to function till 4 pm and movement is restricted after 5 pm. Considering Pune’s traffic volume and time taken for people to reach homes, we will start barricading roads from 6.30 pm. This will help us avoid traffic snarls, especially at checkpoints. This does not mean people can move around without a valid reason after 5 pm. They can be stopped after 5 pm and be asked to give a reason for their movement. We appeal to people to cooperate with the police.”
Gupta added, “Restrictions remain to ensure that there is no unnecessary movement. We hope that Pune will soon move to Level 2 if people continue following all rules and take all Covid-appropriate measures.”
