The League of Conservation Voters Action Fund’s first round of U.S. Senate endorsements for the 2022 midterm elections went to nine incumbent Democrats – including New Hampshire Sen Maggie Hassan.The action fund is the connected federal political committee of the League of Conservation Voters, one of the nation’s most long-standing progressive environmental groups.The group also endorsed Sens. Michael Bennet of Colorado, Alex Padilla of California, Patty Murray of Washington, Catherine Cortez Masto of Nevada, Tammy Duckworth of Illinois, Brian Schatz of Hawaii, Raphael Warnock of Georgia and Ron Wyden of Oregon.The group said it is backing Hassan due to her “commitment to real action on climate change and building a clean energy future.” It is the group's first endorsement of Hassan for federal office; it did not make an endorsement in 2016.LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President Tiernan Sittenfeld called Hassan “a champion for climate action.“It is more important than ever that we have leaders like Senator Hassan, who prioritize the health and well-being of communities over polluter profits and trust science and facts,” Sittenfeld said.“From addressing PFAS contamination in our communities to helping create clean energy jobs, Senator Maggie Hassan has worked tirelessly to protect New Hampshire’s environment and combat climate change,” said New Hampshire LCV State Director Rob Werner. “We are proud to endorse her for re-election and look forward to working in communities across the state to re-elect Senator Hassan.”Hassan said in a statement: “We must take real action to address the existential threat posed by climate change and lead the world in transitioning to a clean energy economy that creates good-paying jobs and protects our environment for generations to come. “With communities across New Hampshire already feeling the impacts of climate change, we must promote an innovative and affordable clean energy future. I am proud to have the endorsement of LCV Action Fund and to continue to build a cleaner energy future for our state and country.”
