COIMBATORE: A seven-year-old boy kidnapped by a man was rescued by the Dharmapuri police in the city on Thursday.
Police said S Saravanakumar, 23, of Vadavalli, befriended the boy’s mother Mohanambigai on Instagram three years ago and often visited her house at Vennampatti in Dharmapuri district.
Last year, Saravanakumar, a carpenter, stayed with her family for a few months. A few months ago, Mohanambigai received Rs 1.5 lakh from Saravanakumar with which she bought a used car.
When Saravanakumar demanded the money back, she refused to return it.
On Wednesday, Saravanakumar visited the woman’s house in his car and argued with her. Later, he kidnapped her son who was playing in front of her house.
The boy did not raise an alarm as he knew Saravanakumar.
Based on her complaint, the Dharmapuri town police with the help of Vadavalli police, the boy was rescued around 12.30am on Thursday. Saravanakumar was arrested and the car used for kidnapping the boy was seized.
Saravanakumar was booked under sections 363 and 366 of the Indian Penal Code. He was produced before a judicial magistrate and later remanded in judicial custody.
