More than 200 restaurants in the city started sending
food to different
COVID facilities in the city recently. Moreover, these restaurants are also reaching out to 100 people each to provide them with food.
Under the initiative, taken by the Kolkata chapter of the
National Restaurant Association of India (
NRAI), the restaurants are serving food at a COVID facility under
KMC and to all senior citizens registered under HIDCO.
Asif Ahmed, secretary of NRAI Kolkata chapter, said they had started the initiative during the 2020 lockdown and set up several community kitchens across the city. This time, to make things faster, the restaurants have opened their kitchens for the purpose.
Keeping in mind the nutritional requirements of COVID-positive people, they are mostly serving a high protein diet. “Besides, we are reaching out to those people who lost their jobs during the pandemic. So, more than 200 restaurants under the association are serving food to no less than 200 people each. It’s a gigantic task, but we have been doing it successfully,” Asif said.
