In an attempt to evade Rs 66,000 fine, a speeding truck ploughed into a roadside stall killing a 24-year-old man and injuring two others in Jalalpur area of Ambedkarnagar on Saturday.

LUCKNOW: In an attempt to evade Rs 66,000 fine, a speeding truck ploughed into a roadside stall killing a 24-year-old man and injuring two others in Jalalpur area of Ambedkarnagar on Saturday.
Irate locals held the team of RTO officials, which was chasing the truck driver, responsible for the incident and torched their jeep. The officials managed to flee the scene.
District magistrate, Ambedkarnagar, Samuel Paul N and superintendent of police Alok Priyadarshi rushed to the spot.

Talking to TOI, the SP said a team led by regional transport officer BD Mishra intercepted a truck overloaded with construction material near Jalalpur and imposed a fine of Rs 66,000 on the driver.
“However, the truck driver hit the RTO vehicle from behind and tried to escape. The truck driver, however, lost control over the vehicle on a sharp turn and hit a roadside stall,” Priyadarshi said.
“A 24-year-old man, Sachin, who was washing dishes near a hand pump was crushed to death while a woman and her husband sitting at the stall sustained injuries. The truck fled from the spot. Agitated locals alleged that the RTO officials were responsible for the crash. They thrashed the driver of the RTO jeep and then set the vehicle ablaze,” the SP said.
“Strict action will be taken against those who thrashed the driver and troched the RTO vehicle. Teams have also been formed to nab the absconding truck driver,” he added.
Ambedkarnagar DM Samuel Paul N said a compensation of Rs 5 lakh would be given to the kin of the man who died in the incident.
