First suspected MIS-C case in Mizoram hospital

A 6-year-old boy, suspected to be the first case of Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in-Children (MIS-C), is being treated at the Presbyterian Church-run Synod Hospital in Aizawl's Durtlang locality.

AIZAWL: A 6-year-old boy, suspected to be the first case of Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in-Children (MIS-C), is being treated at the Presbyterian Church-run Synod Hospital in Aizawl's Durtlang locality.
State nodal officer of the Integrated Disease Surveillance Program (ISDP), Dr Pachuau Lalmalsawma, and State Epidemiologist, IDSP, Dr R Lalrintluanga, visited the boy in the hospital on Saturday and sent a report using MIS-C report form to the Emergency Medical Relief (EMR), New Delhi for further examination.

The report was sent after holding detailed discussion with Dr John Malsawma, Senior Consultant Paediatrics of the Synod Hospital who has been treating the boy. The boy recovered after being infected with Covid-19 after returning from Delhi and was found to be having the MIS-C symptoms following his admission to the hospital on June 4 for having diarrhoea and high fever. Doctors said that he has been making steady improvement.
Meanwhile, the state government extended the total lockdown for another week from Monday till 4 am on June 21 as the fresh Covid-19 cases continued unabated and the test positivity rate (TPR) remained at 5.86% and 6.57% on Friday and Saturday respectively.
According to the state health department officials, 58% of those Covid-19 cases detected during April was due to community transmission and 98% during May till June 10.

Of 62 people who lost their lives due to Covid-19, 25 people died during May and 22 people died during June till Saturday morning. The officials said that while 50% of those who died were above 60 years of age while 60% of those who died were having co-morbidities. Ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) legislator prof F. Lalnunmawia tested positive of Covid-19 on Saturday at the Zoram Medical College and was having mild symptoms. As on Saturday evening, there were 3,356 active cases in Mizoram and 62 have died due to Covid-19 in the state. Of the 14,921 total number of infected cases, 11,503 people have recovered.
