Lucknow: STF arrests man posing as officer in Secretariat

LUCKNOW: A team of STF nabbed a BTech graduate for fraud in Lucknow on Saturday. The accused, Himanshu Shukla, used to impersonate an officer posted in the Secretariat and ask people for favours. He also used to extract money from them.
A resident of Vrindavan Colony, Shukla maintained the fraud when STF sleuths first questioned him. He said he was formerly employed in the home department and currently in the transport department in the Secretariat.
“The miscreant said this in reply to why his phone number was displaying as one belonging to ‘OSD principal secretary, UP government’.He showed his identity card to prove his point. He claimed he was being framed at the behest of an officer in Mirzapur as he had rebuked him,” said DySP, STF, Amit Nagar.
The accused used official language with the sleuths, saying he could get his identity card verified by senior officials in the Secretariat. He claimed he was being harassed by STF. Meanwhile, STF continued working on the case and confirmed he was a fraud. Shukla was called to STF office with original documents.
This time, Shukla could not stand the interrogation and gave in, added the officer. “He owned up to his crime and said he had worked as an attendant for two years in the Secretariat and got acquainted with several staff members there. After BTech, he also tried his hand in property dealing but failed,” said Nagar.
