Not mucor alone, hosps see two more fungal infections

Not all fungal infections in patients who have recovered from Covid are due to mucormycosis, a hospital has found. Aspergillus niger and Candida albicans are among other fungi that are infecting patients. Doctors at Bowring and Lady Curzon Medical College Hospital, which has treated more than 140 patients with mucormycosis, say cell culture tests have shown the presence of all three fungi.

When parks opened on Monday, many fitness enthusiasts were seen walking or jogging with masks on. But there were several who either did not have a mask on or wore one improperly. With lockdown restrictions being lifted in phases, should one mandatorily wear a mask while jogging or walking in a public park has become one of the most debated questions. When TOI asked health authorities to clarify, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) chief health officer Dr BK Vijendra said: “It is mandatory to wear masks when walking or jogging.”

MLA performs last rites of Covid victim

Puttur MLA Sanjeeva Matandoor assisted in the conduct of the last rites of a 52-year-old woman, who died due to Covid on Monday. The woman died at a hospital in Mangaluru on Sunday. On learning that no one from the family would perform her last rites, volunteer’s of the MLA’s war room started preparing for the same. The MLA, who was in town, too decided to assist them.
