    How should investors position themselves in a volatile market

    Welcome to ETMarkets Watch, the show about stocks, market trends and money-making ideas. I am Atul P.M. and here are the top headlines at this hour.

    Let us take a quick glance at what happened on Dalal Street today.

    Bulls made a strong comeback in the second half of the volatile session, dragging the benchmark indices to record closing high. Adani Group stocks nosedived on Monday on reports that the NSDL has frozen the accounts of three FPIs. Adani Group later claimed that the reports were “blatantly erroneous”.

    Nifty50 gained over 200 points from day's low to close at 15,812, up 13 points. After breaching the 52,000 level in the morning, BSE Sensex ended above 52,550. Broader markets underperformed, whereas fear gauge India VIX jumped 5 per cent.

    Reliance Industries was the top gainer on BSE Sensex. It was followed by Bajaj Finance, ONGC, Infosys and L&T, which added 1 per cent each. On the flip side, Kotak Mahindra Bank declined 2 per cent. HDFC, Sun Pharma and Bajaj Auto were other laggards. About 550 stocks hit upper circuit limits for the day and 215 stocks tested their 52-week highs during the day.

    Most Asian markets ended higher for the day. Major European markets were trading with gains in the first few hours of trade. US stock futures were hinting at a positive start to US equities later in the day.
