Karnataka: MLA performs last rites of a Covid victim

The woman died at a hospital in Mangaluru on Sunday. On learning that no one from the family would perform her last rites, volunteer’s of the MLA’s war room started preparing for the same. The MLA, who was in town, too decided to assist them. A picture of him at the crematorium wearing a PPE has gone viral.

The MLA’s war room was set up last year. So far the team members have performed last rites of nearly 60 people who died due to Covid and non-Covid reasons.

MANGALURU: Puttur MLA Sanjeeva Matandoor assisted in the conduct of the last rites of a 52-year-old woman, who died due to Covid on Monday.
The woman died at a hospital in Mangaluru on Sunday. On learning that no one from the family would perform her last rites, volunteer’s of the MLA’s war room started preparing for the same. The MLA, who was in town, too decided to assist them.

The MLA’s war room was set up last year. So far the team members have performed last rites of nearly 60 people who died due to Covid and non-Covid reasons. During the second wave, since March, the war room has received 2,780 calls mostly related to medicines, vaccine information, and food delivery. Most of the calls are from rural areas.
