Malda zilla parishad chief to face trust vote

Malda zilla parishad chief to face trust vote
Malda: The Trinamool Congress has served a no-confidence notice on Malda zilla parishad sabhadhipati Gour Mandal who defected to the BJP, along with 22 members, ahead of the Bengal assembly polls.
The tables turned after the Trinamool scripted a decisive victory in the elections. Several members — including BJP’s Habibpur candidate Sarala Murmu — are now eager to return, prompting the Trinamool to stake claim to the 38-member zilla parishad.
Two BJP members too have recently joined the party in a reverse flow of things.
“The sabhadhipati has no moral right to continue after 23 members signed the no-confidence motion against him,” said Trinamool’s Malda president Mousam Noor.
The BJP’s district president Gobinda Mandal alleged that some zilla parishad members were “under pressure” to sign the notice.
Mandal has meanwhile decided not to go down without a fight. “Some members served the notice and a meeting of the zilla parishad will be held accordingly. I am confident that the majority will vote for me,” he said.
