Police have arrested a man in connection with an attempted murder in Newmilns on Friday afternoon.

Detectives launched an appeal after a 25-year-old man was hit by a white SUV-type vehicle on Main Street, around 2.45pm.

An appeal was launched for witnesses to come forward and police have tonight confirmed an arrest has been made.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Following an earlier appeal in relation to an attempted murder on Main Street, Newmilns on Friday June, 18, a 36-year-old man has been arrested in connection with this incident, and remains in police custody."
