HONG KONG (WFXR) — Ian Ho is Tokyo bound.

The Blacksburg high school graduate and Virginia Tech product qualified for the upcoming Summer Olympics by swimming under 22 seconds in the 50-meter freestyle at a time trial in Hong Kong Sunday.

Ho completed the length of the pool in 21.97 seconds, racing against the clock by himself to meet the Olympic standard, which was 22.01. The time set a national record as the 2019 Hokies graduate will make his Olympic debut this summer as a member of the Hong Kong swim team.

The messages of support flooded Ian Ho’s Instagram stories feed on Sunday as news of his qualification spread.
