LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — With warm weather and fewer restrictions, Father’s Day brought on smiles and positive spirits this year.
“Last Father’s Day I found out I was having a baby,” said Zachary Holguin.
“I live in Charlottesville now, so I’m coming back and visiting for Father’s Day,” Liam Donohue said.
This year’s Father’s Day proved to be much better than last year’s.
Hugh Davis was seen walking around with his family in Lynchburg.
“We’re not wearing masks. We’ll be seeing friends and family in smaller groups. Things are looking more normal,” said Davis.
Joseph Schmidt says his family is finally able to get a little closer at their parents’ house.
“It’ll be good to get all of us there and nobody wearing masks and most of us are vaccinated now so it’ll be kind of refreshing to be able to hang out like out times for sure,” Schmidt said.
Last year brought on tough times, and many say lessons from Dad helped them through it. Some people shared the lessons they learned from Dad with WFXR News.
“My dad taught me about having a good perspective and not worrying too much about things in the moment,” said Donohue.
“Don’t talk to strange people,” Davis’ son said.
“My dad kind of modeled for me and kind of forced me sometimes and showed me how to apologize. That’s helped me in life to recognize when I’m wrong and admit that to other people,” said Schmidt.
“Don’t be so aggressive and break things, like picture frames,” Davis’ daughter said with a laugh.
Holguin says becoming a father during the pandemic has given him some experiences he’ll never forget.
“A lot of change, a lot of difference, but also a lot of joy,” said Holguin.
“This is the best dad,” said Davis’ kids. “He’s the best dad ever.”
