KCKPD: Carjacking suspect dies after shootout with police

Police say a carjacking suspect who was shot by officers as he fled from police Sunday afternoon has died. Police say body cam footage shows the suspect fired at officers first and they returned fire, killing him.
The shootout happened in the area of 18th St. and Parallel Parkway in Kansas City, Kansas Saturday afternoon.
KCKPD says a car matching the description of a vehicle stolen in an armed carjacking Thursday at 18th and Garfield in Kansas City, Kansas was seen in Kansas City, Missouri around 11:30 a.m. Sunday, near Independence Ave. and Benton Blvd. A person matching the suspect description was driving.
Kansas City, Missouri Police began a pursuit and the driver refused to stop. The chase crossed state lines into Kansas City, Kansas, and KCPD was granted permission to continue their pursuit into Kansas.
The pursuit ended when the suspect, a 25-year-old man, crashed behind a BP gas station at 18th and Parallel. He got out of the vehicle with a handgun and ran from police. Body cam video shows the suspect turned and fired at officers, who then returned fire. Police have not confirmed which department the officer who shot the suspect works for.
Police rendered first aid at the scene and the suspect was taken to a hospital where he died. He was identified as Dario Dominguez, of Kansas City, Kansas.
The incident is being investigated by a multi-agency task force comprised of members from the KCKPD, Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Department and the Wyandotte County District Attorney’s Office.
