Doha: Qatar’s tourism sector will get a long term boost from the plans of the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior H E Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani and will position the country as a leading tourism destination globally.

During his meeting with Editors-in-Chief of Qatari newspapers, H E the Prime Minister revealed ambitious plans for the tourism sector.

“We seek to create new destinations that suit and interest all segments of society and tourists. Legislative tools for restructuring the tourism sector regulators will be released soon and this sector will be followed up by the Prime Minister. We also have a complete and national strategy for the development of the tourism sector, which includes the development of beaches, which is an integrated project that includes many areas,” H E the Prime Minister had said.

The tourism sector is upbeat by the vision and plans of H E the Prime Minister. “The announcement by the H E the Prime Minister has come at the right time. The measures announced will help in long-term and comprehensive growth of the tourism sector of Qatar. The measures will ensure that the Qatar’s tourism sector is ready just not for the upcoming World Cup, but even beyond that.

The tourism sector will be ready to fulfil the desires of tourists even after the world cup is over,” General Manager of Milano Travel, Ali Thabet told The Peninsula.

He insists that tourism is not just about building hotels and restaurants. Development of museums, malls, traditional markets, cinema halls and other such facilities are also needed for the comprehensive growth of the tourism sector. After the tourists arrive in Qatar, they would like to explore the country. They would like to spend days here and would like to go to museums to explore the culture of the country. They would also like to go for sightseeing, shopping and other activities to make their visit memorable

Ali Thabet said that there is a need to invest further in human resource. The citizens should be encouraged to come forward to promote the country’s tourism sector. There should be more training programme for locals to promote the country as a top tourist destination.

“The measures announced by H E the Prime Minister will lead to further development of tourism sector and it will become attractive for global investors. We will see increased investments by foreign investors who would like to invest in this sector for the long term,” General Manager of a tour and travel agency told The Peninsula.
