Area roundup: LifeStream offering farmers market vouchers for seniors

YORKTOWN — Vouchers for the Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) are available through LifeStream Services while supplies last. Vouchers are provided by the state in limited quantities, and will be distributed on a first come first serve basis, according to a release.

Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program vouchers are worth $20 and can be used through Oct. 20. Eligible items include beans, peppers, tomatoes, apples, and other fresh fruit and vegetables. Vouchers can only be redeemed at qualifying locations. Recipients must be 60 years of age or older and meet the income guidelines, which are based on 185 percent of the Federal Poverty Income Guidelines. Those interested in receiving SFMNP vouchers will need to apply by calling Dana Pierce, nutrition administrator, at 765-808-9059 or Micole Leverette, community services assistant, at 765-620-9907. Those interested can also fill out the application online at lifestreaminc.org/nutrition.

Submitting an application does not guarantee the applicant will qualify to receive vouchers. Those who qualify to receive vouchers will receive them by mail sent directly to their residence.

Amateur Radio 'Field Day' set for this weekend

YORKTOWN — Members of the Muncie Area Amateur Radio Club will be participating in the national amateur radio Field Day exercise from 2 p.m. Saturday, June 26 until 2 p.m. Sunday, June 27 at Morrow's Meadow.

Since 1933, ham radio operators across North America have established temporary ham radio stations in public locations during Field Day to showcase the science and skill of amateur radio, according to a release. This event is open to the public.

Youth for Christ adds City Life ministry site

MUNCIE — Muncie Area Youth for Christ recently announced its newest ministry site, City Life, focused on tutoring and mentoring students at Southside Middle School.

A ministry model to transform the lives of urban youth, their families and the communities in which they live, the Muncie City Life program will be led by Jon Hopkins.

Hopkins works part-time at a local construction company, as well as serving as a youth pastor and board member on the board of directors at Wesleyan Chapel Church, according to a release.
