Malda murders: Brother of teen accused may turn approver
Malda: The elder brother of the key accused in the Malda murders may turn approver in the case. In his statement, Arif Mohammed said he had managed to escape when Asif made an attempt on his life on February 28.
Asif had killed four of his family members that day. Arif approached cops on June 18. Police sources said Arif was going to be an approver and would soon record his statement before a magistrate under Section 164 of CrPC.
SP Alok Rajoria said Arif’s delay in reporting the murders was being examined.
The brothers were taken to the scene of the crime for a recreation on Tuesday. “We hope to submit a chargesheet soon,” Rajoria said. A relative of Asif’s who lives in Jharkhand, Sheesh Mohammad, may also be questioned. He may have a role in the cache of arms that was recovered from two of Asif’s friends.
Meanwhile, 16 Mile village witnessed another murder on Tuesday. The body of Aliul Momin (18), an e-rickshaw puller, was found with injuries to his throat and head. Police suspect a heavy weapon was used to kill him. The body has been sent for postmortem. Rajoria said: “This is a separate case and we are looking into it.”
