Brother, uncle of Malda murder accused record statements
Malda: The brother and uncle of the main accused in the Malda murders gave their statements to the magistrate on Thursday.
Asif Mohammad’s brother Arif and their uncle Sheesh Mohammad, a Jharkhand resident, recorded statements under CrPC Section 164.
Asif, who had killed four of his family members and hidden their bodies on February 28, had made an attempt on Arif too but he managed to escape.
Arif, the main complainant in the case, is expected to turn approver.
Asif was arrested on June 19 and the decomposed bodies were recovered. He is in police custody now.
Later, police also found a large cache of arms procured by Asif and kept in the custody of two friends, Sabir Ali and Md Mahfuj, against Rs 50,000. The friends were produced in court on Thursday and sent to 10 days’ jail custody.
Sheesh had allegedly given money to Asif to procure the arms, and had joined Arif in lodging the complaint.
Assistant public prosecutor Debajyoti Paul said: “Asif had activities on the dark web and had procured the arms through it. His uncle, Sheesh Mohammad, too was involved in this.”
Superintendent of police Alok Rajoria said: “We are hopeful of cracking the case soon and begin a custody trial.”
