Andhra Pradesh: 2 dead as concrete beams of under-construction flyover collapse in Vizag

Two persons died on the spot and three others sustained injuries after two concrete beams of an under construction flyover collapsed in Amakapalle town in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday evening.

The incident happened ?? on the Anandapuram-Anakapalle stretch near Puppala junction in Anakapalle town of Vizag.
VISAKHAPATNAM: Two persons died on the spot and three others sustained injuries after two concrete beams of an under construction flyover collapsed in Anakapalle town in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday evening.
The incident happened on the Anandapuram-Anakapalle stretch near Puppala junction.
The flyover is being constructed as a part of the six- lane project by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), which had entrusted the work to a private construction firm.

The accident led to massive traffic jams on the route which witnesses heavy vehicular movement.
Deputy superintendent of police K Sravani said that the concrete structures of the flyover collapsed on a car and a tanker truck.
Two people, who were in the front seat of the car, died in the incident while the other two who were sitting in the rear seat of the vehicle were rescued.
Similarly, one person in the tanker truck was rescued by the police personnel, she added.
The deceased were identified as Satish Kumar and Sushanth Mohanty, both residents of Sriharipuram in Vizag city.

The police have shifted the injured persons to the nearby hospital, where their condition is said to be stable.
heice said that Kumar and Mohanty along with their wives came to Anakapalle town for darshan of a local deity. The incident took place when they were returning to their home.
The police suspect that a mechanical fault caused the collapse of the concrete beams.
Alleging poor quality of the construction, members of the CPM demanded a detailed investigation into the incident.
District secretary of CPM K Lokanadham demanded that the government should provide ex-gratia of Rs 1 crore to the families of the deceased and also provide advanced treatment to the injured.
