4 lakh people vaccinated in Katihar so far: DM
KATIHAR: As only vaccinated people are allowed to enter government offices in the state, the district administration has taken steps to ensure implementation of the order.
“The second wave of Covid pandemic made all of us realise the importance of vaccination in fighting the disease. During the lockdown period and in the initial phases of unlocking, the entry of visitors in government offices was not allowed.
In the current phase of unlocking, which started from July 7, the entry of visitors has been allowed, subject to the condition that they are vaccinated,” Katihar DM Udayan Mishra said.
He added a separate counter has been set up at the collectorate where visitors can show their vaccine certificates before entering any government office. “The vaccination drive has gained momentum in the district. So far, more than four lakh people have been inoculated in the district,” the DM said, adding a mega vaccination camp was organised at 52 sites in urban areas of the district on Thursday and Friday.
District immunisation officer Dr D N Jha said at least 8,715 beneficiaries took Covishield jabs on Thursday and 5,000 till 4pm on Friday.
“In the urban areas, 57% eligible population has already been immunised. Overall, 21-22% people have so far been vaccinated in the district. The district has more than 20 lakh eligible population for immunisation,” Dr Jha said.
