Odisha: Ex-banker arrested for Rs 1.5 crore fraud in Kendrapada

A former manager of a nationalised bank in Kendrapada was arrested on Friday on charges of Rs 1.50 crore loan fraud case. The accused, Manmohan Mohanty, was working as manager of Canara Bank branch at Kakat under Kendrapada Town police station.

KENDRAPADA: A former manager of a nationalised bank in Kendrapada was arrested on Friday on charges of Rs 1.50 crore loan fraud case. The accused, Manmohan Mohanty, was working as manager of Canara Bank branch at Kakat under Kendrapada Town police station.
Satyajit Das, a businessman and proprietor of Jagannath Traders of Santa Sahi lodged an FIR against the bank’s manager in 2016 alleging that the manager had fraudulently withdrawn Rs 13 lakh from his account using cheques that he had given him for sanction of loans.

Acting on the compliant, police probed and found the manager to have debited around 1.50 crores from the accounts of 14 customers. In all cases, he collected bank cheques from the customers as documents for loans. He was suspended in 2018.
“During probe, we found the accused bought a luxury apartment in Bhubaneswar and land in Kendrapada, Bhubaneswar and Pipili,” said IIC of Kendrapada town police station, Jyotiranjan Samantray. The accused was produced in court at Kendrapada on Friday.
