Karisma Kapoor reveals she almost turned down Dil To Pagal Hai because of Madhuri Dixit

Karisma Kapoor was seen as a special guest this weekend on Indian Idol 12. She had a great fun on the show dancing to her popular numbers. The actress also shared an interesting anecdote from the 1997 film Dil To Pagal Hai in which she starrred alongside Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit. While Karisma won many hearts with her role of Nisha in the film, not many know that she had initially rejected Dil To Pagal Hai because of Madhuri Dixit. The actress was afraid to compete with Madhuri in dance. However, Karisma's mother, Babita Kapoor, encouraged her to take up the role.

KARISMA KAPOOR REVEALS SHE ALMOST REJECTED DIL TO PAGAL HAI

Karisma Kapoor shared some interesting anecdotes from her time in the industry on Indian Idol 12 and also danced with host Aditya Narayan. She said, “Every single heroine refused the film (Dil To Pagal Hai). The role came to me...it was a dance film and that too to work with opposite Madhuri Dixit. Everyone said, 'No how can we dance alongside Madhuri Dixit ji.' Initially, I too said no to it as it was a dance film and competition dance with Madhuri Dixit. I said, 'This isn’t happening'."

Karisma added, "Then finally, Yash ji and Adi (Yash Chopra and Aditya Chopra) narrated the story to me. My mother told me, 'You must take up the challenge. You are a big fan of Madhuri Dixit, you must do it. You work hard and you will shine'.”

ABOUT DIL TO PAGAL HAI

Dil Toh Pagal Hai was directed by late filmmaker Yash Chopra. In the film, Madhuri Dixit played the role of a dancer who falls in love with a choreographer, played by Shah Rukh Khan. Karisma, who also plays the role of a dancer, is also in love with Shah Rukh's character in the film. This love triangle results into a lot of drama. Dil Toh Pagal Hai's music was a major hit with the audience. The songs for the film were composed by Uttam Singh. Anand Bakshi penned the lyrics. Dil To Pagal Hai was a massive hit with the audience and was also hailed by the critics. Karisma also received National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2000 for her role.

ON THE WORK FRONT FOR KARISMA KAPOOR

Karisma Kapoor was last seen on the big screen in Dangerous Ishhq in 2012. Apart from that, she had guest appearances in films such as Bombay Talkies and Zero. Karisma made her OTT debut with Mentalhood, which also starred Sandhya Mridul, Sanjay Suri, Shilpa Shukla and Shruti Seth.
