IDUKKI: A 45-year-old woman was trampled to death by a wild elephant at Thalakkulam near Poopara in Idukki on Wednesday.
Police said the woman,
Vimala from Korampara, was attacked around 2.15pm while working at a cardamom plantation.
Due to heavy fog and rain, the workers did not see the elephant inside the plantation. While others working with her managed to escape, Vimala was attacked by the jumbo and died on the spot.
Vimala’s body was shifted to the
Adimali Government Hospital for autopsy.
Vimala is survived by husband Chiramjeevi and children
Elangover and
Gopi.
The farmland is along the Mathikettanshola National Park border and wild elephant attacks have been rampant in the area for the last one week, said the natives.
Since 2010, over 39 people have lost their lives in wild elephant attacks in Munnar wildlife division.
