Maharashtra floods: 52 killed, 50 trapped in Raigad, Ratnagiri landslides

Landslides in Maharashtra's Konkan region have claimed at least 52 lives while 50 are missing in Raigad and Ratnagiri districts so far.

NAVI MUMBAI: Landslides in Maharashtra's Konkan region have claimed at least 52 lives while 50 are missing in Raigad and Ratnagiri districts so far.
The landslide in Taliye village in Mahad in the Raigad district occurred around 5pm on Thursday. It had so far claimed 36 persons while 30 others were missing while a few were admitted to hospitals.
Six deaths at Kevnale while five in Govele Sutarwadi landslides were reported in Poladpur taluka.

Three deaths were reported at Dhamnand village, Khed taluka, Ratnagiri whereas 17 persons are missing.
Two died in a landslide at Parshuram ghat while another landslide information from Chiplun taluka is awaited. An NDRF team airlifted from Mumbai to reach the Mahad landslide site have to return due to lack of landing facility.

“The inaccessible Taleyi village on the Sahyadri hill range had a massive landslide around 5 pm on Thursday. Communication and transportation remain affected. The village has a population of over 72 of which 36 have been killed while 30 are still missing. Some of them have been admitted to Batu public health centre while few are in the sub-district hospital Mangaon. Rescue teams are reaching out to the village,” said Manoj Sanap, district information officer-Raigad.


“The second and third landslides reported on Friday morning at Kevnale and Govele Sutarwadi villages, Poladpur taluka. 6 died in Kevnale while five at Govele Sutarwadi,” added Sanap.
“Over 15 persons are injured in Poladpur landslides with some of them have been admitted to the government rural hospital. The village is difficult to access,” said Shailesh Palkar, an activist, Poladpur.
“An NDRF team was airlifted from Mumbai to Mahad to reach the landslide site but had to return as the district administration could not provide a landing facility. Another NDRF team reached the Taleyi village by road. One more team is rushing to Dhamnand site, Khed taluka,” said Pavan Gaur, deputy commandant, NDRF, 5th Bn, Pune.
“The NDRF concern is being checked,” said Sanap.
“Three persons have died in the landslide in Dhamnand village, Khed taluka, 17 persons are missing. Rescue and search operation is on. Two more persons died in a landslide at Parshuram ghat in Chiplun around 3 pm on Friday,” said Prashant Daithankar, district information officer-Ratnagiri.

Meanwhile, PM Narendra Modi paid his condolences to the bereaved families of the victims who died in the landslide in Maharashtra's Raigad district.
