Community walks in remembrance of Butler nurse shot and killed in Nashville
A community held a memorial walk in Butler Saturday to remember the life of a Butler nurse shot and killed in Nashville.
Caitlyn Kaufman was killed in Nashville where she was a nurse treating COVID-19 patients.
Kaufman was a 2012 Butler High School graduate and graduated from Butler County Community College with a nursing degree.
She was living out her dream as a nurse in Nashville when she was shot and killed while driving to work December 3.
Kaufman's friends, family and community packed Butler Memorial Park to honor her. The group is holding a candlelight vigil, hosting a memorial walk and are raising money that will go towards Kaufman's Butler County Community College scholarship fund.
"Kaitlyn was an extraordinary person, and I just felt she would help anyone in need and this event just really hit home for me. First off, she's my friend and I just couldn't believe that no one else in the community came up to do this. I just couldn't see this and watch it go by without me doing something for her," said event organizer, Kelsie Stransky.
"Caitlyn was an angel on earth," said her mother, Diana Kaufman. "A remarkable young lady. Very loving and caring."
"Tell your loved ones how much they mean to you and to hold them close because tomorrow is not guaranteed and anything can happen," said Stransky. "I just want everybody to strive to be like Caitlyn. Be kind. Be brave and most of all, be yourself."
"Caitlyn was truly loved by so many and I'm just very thankful and grateful for the turnout," said Kaufman.
