Weather Forecast Today LIVE Updates: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued an ‘orange’ alert on the fourth consecutive day forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall in 13 districts of Madhya Pradesh. The alert is valid till Tuesday morning and comes at a time when most parts of the state have been experiencing rain for the past four days.

Meanwhile, the death toll due to the floods in Maharashtra has risen to 164 while at least 100 people are still reported to be missing, the state government said on Monday.

The orange alert is for heavy to very heavy rainfall and thunderstorms accompanied by lightning in isolated places in Gwalior, Shivpuri, Guna, Ashok Nagar, Datia, Sheopur, Morena, Bhind, Rajgarh, Agar-Malwa, Neemuch, Mandsaur and Tikamgarh, said PK Saha, senior meteorologist with IMD’s Bhopal office.

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar toured various rain-hit villages in Sangli district on Monday and used a rescue boat to reach out to flood victims in some areas. Pawar also interacted with the flood-affected people and assured them of rehabilitation and all help from the state government.

Meanwhile, Raigad DM Nidhi Choudhari said that rescue operation at the landslide-hit Taliye village in the district have officially ended, news agency ANI reported. “A total of 53 bodies have been recovered from the landslide site in Taliye village in Raigad. 31 were declared dead after it was decided to close the operation today. 5 were injured who are being treated in the hospital,” she added.

Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray Sunday said that a relief package will be announced soon — and a separate force on the lines of the NDRF will be set up in vulnerable districts to ensure a quicker response during natural disasters.

Speaking to reporters after a review meeting at Chiplun in Raigad district, Thackeray said: “The government will do everything to make them (those affected) stand on their feet. The assistance such as food, clothes, medicines and others will be provided to flood-affected people immediately. The district administration has been instructed that technical issues should not come in the way of providing assistance.”

Maharashtra flood victims to get Rs 10K immediate aid

While Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Monday said a relief package will be announced in two days for the flood affected people across the state, Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Vijay Wadettiwar announced an immediate assistance of Rs 10,000 for those whose houses and shops have been swept by the floods.

“Several parts of the state have been affected by the floods. Sangli has suffered huge damage. I have been told by the administration that over 41,000 families, including around 2 lakh people, have been shifted to relief camps. The state is committed to help everyone hit by the floods,” Pawar said during his visit to Sangli district on Monday. He was speaking at the review meeting at the district collectorate.

Besides Wadettiwar, Water Resources Minister Jayant Patil, Minister for Agriculture and Cooperation Vishwajeet Kadam, zilla parishad president Prajakata Kore, Mayor Digvijay Suryavanshi, MLAs Sudhir Gadgil, Suresh Khade, Mansinghrao Jadhav and Sumantai Patil, Divisional Commissioner Saurabh Rao and District Collector Ahbijit Chaudhary were present at the meeting. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued an 'orange' alert on the fourth consecutive day predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall in 13 districts of Madhya Pradesh. The alert is valid till Tuesday morning and comes at a time when most parts of the state have been experiencing rain for the past four days. The orange alert is for heavy to very heavy rainfall and thunderstorms accompanied by lightning in isolated places in Gwalior, Shivpuri, Guna, Ashok Nagar, Datia, Sheopur, Morena, Bhind, Rajgarh, Agar-Malwa, Neemuch, Mandsaur and Tikamgarh, said PK Saha, senior meteorologist with IMD's Bhopal office. "It is the fourth consecutive orange alert we have issued since Friday. Rainfall might abate on Tuesday as the low-pressure area over northwest MP has weakened. However, the associated cyclonic circulation over north-west MP still persists and an east-west trough was running along 25 degrees north latitude. Therefore, rain activity might be confined to the northwest of MP, including Gwalior and Chambal divisions," he told PTI. --PTI

Light to moderate rains at isolated places in western UP

Light to moderate thundershowers occurred at isolated places over western Uttar Pradesh in the past 24 hours, weather office said on Monday. Rainfall was reported from Chitrakoot, Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar and Jhansi districts, it said. The highest temperature was recorded in Gorakhpur at 38.5 degrees Celsius and the lowest at 25 degrees Celsius in Basti. The meteorological department has forecast rain and thundershowers at most places over the state on Tuesday. --PTI

Search operations called off in Maharashtra's landslide-hit Taliye village; 31 missing to be declared dead

The Raigad district administration on Monday called off the search operations for 31 missing people in Taliye village which was ravaged by a massive landslide after heavy rains last week. So far, 53 people have died in the village and five are injured, while 31 people are still missing and they will be declared dead following the due process, district Collector Nidhi Chaudhari said. The village, located in Mahad taluka of Raigad in Maharashtra's Konkan region, witnessed the deadliest landslide last Thursday after heavy rains, flattening several houses in the area. The collector said the decision to call of the search operations was taken after seeking opinion of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the disaster response forces of the state and neighbouring Thane district. "The rescue operations have ended officially. We have withdrawn our teams from Taliye. The 31 missing will be declared dead following the due process...relatives of the missing people demanded closure of the operations since yesterday," the collector said. Respecting sentiments of the survivors and relatives of the missing people, the operations to search for the 31 missing people have been officially called off, she added. --PTI

Moderate rain likely in Delhi today, says IMD

The national capital woke up to a cloudy sky on Monday morning as the minimum temperature settled at 28.3 degrees Celsius, the India Meteorological Department said, PTI reported.

The city is expected to receive moderate rain during the day, while the maximum temperature may settle around 34 degrees Celsius, it said. The relative humidity was recorded at 77 per cent at 8.30 am.

The city had experienced sultry weather on Sunday with some parts getting light rain. The maximum and minimum temperatures had settled at 37.3 and 27.6 degrees Celsius, respectively.

GSM-based system helped 3.5 lakh people in Kolhapur by forewarning them of flood

A public address system operated through GSM technology helped as many as 3.5 lakh people in Kolhapur district of Maharashtra to protect themselves as heavy rains triggered floods and caused water-logging in many areas over the last few days, guardian minister Satej Patil has said. More than 75,000 people have been shifted to safer places in Kolhapur so far, Patil said in a statement. Learning its lessons from the devastating 2019 floods, the Kolhapur administration recently installed a GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication)-based public address system at 57 places in Shirol and Karvir tehsils. The system has been funded from the annual plan of the District Planning Committee, which is headed by Patil. --PTI

Eighty-nine bodies have been retrieved and 34 people are missing following landslides triggered by heavy rainfall in the coastal regions of Maharashtra, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) said on Sunday. S N Pradhan, the Director General (DG) of the federal force, tweeted the latest data of its operations being undertaken in Raigad, Ratnagiri and Satara districts of the state. As per the data, NDRF rescuers have retrieved a total of 89 bodies from these areas, with the highest number of 47 being from the worst-hit Taliye village under Mahad tehsil of Raigad. --PTI

Union Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Narayan Rane visited the landslide-hit Taliye village in Raigad on Sunday morning along with Maharashtra opposition leader Devendra Fadnavis and Pravin Darekar.

"This is an unfortunate incident. So far 44 bodies have been found and I have taken stock of the rescue operation. The rescue teams are making all the efforts," Rane said.

He said apart from the compensation announced by the Union and the state governments, the Centre would rehabilitate the victims under Prime Minister Awas Yojana. He further said, "I have been sent by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take stock of the situation here. Accordingly, I will send a report of the same and necessary help will be provided by the Centre."

"The state and the Centre will together rebuild the village. We will be trying to provide whatever the families of the victims need. The only thing we will not be able to do is to bring back those who have lost their lives. But we will take good care of those who are alive."

73 bodies recovered, 47 people missing in Maharashtra following landslides: NDRF

Seventy-three bodies have been retrieved and 47 people are missing following landslides triggered by heavy rainfall in the coastal regions of Maharashtra, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) said on Sunday.

S N Pradhan, the Director General (DG) of the federal force, tweeted the latest data of its operations being undertaken in Raigad, Ratnagiri and Satara districts of the state. As per the data, NDRF rescuers have retrieved a total of 73 bodies from these areas with the highest number of 44 from the worst-hit Taliye village under Mahad tehsil of Raigad.

Forty-seven people have been reported missing in these three districts, as per the data posted at 12:19 pm on Twitter. The force has deployed 34 teams for relief and rescue operations in the affected regions of Maharashtra. (PTI)

MP: Bus skids off overflowing bridge; passengers safe

bus with around 50 people on board skidded off an overflowing bridge in Madhya Pradesh's Sheopur district following heavy rains, but all the passengers were safely evacuated, police said on Sunday.

The incident took place on Saturday evening when the bus was crossing the newly constructed small bridge over the Mithi river in the district. While passing through the inundated bridge in Bargavan village, located about 70 km from the district headquarters, the bus landed into a pothole and came to a halt, local police station's inspector Mamta Gujar told PTI.

Due to the heavy flow of water, its rear wheels skidded off the bridge, she said. After being alerted, the police reached the spot and evacuated the bus passengers safely with the help of locals, the official said. (PTI)

Maha rains: Search ops on for missing people in Satara; Mumbai-Bengaluru stretch in Kolhapur still waterlogged

The rain intensity reduced in Maharashtra's Satara district on Sunday and authorities continued search operations for those missing after landslides, while traffic remained suspended on the Mumbai-Bengaluru highway as a stretch in neighbouring Kolhapur was still inundated, officials said. The death toll in rain-related incidents at Satara in western Maharashtra rose to 28 by late Saturday evening while at least 14 people are still missing, they said.

Till Saturday night, 11 bodies were recovered from Ambeghar village after a landslide there, six from Mirgaon village and four from Dhokawale village. Besides, seven people died in other rain-related incidents in Satara district, officials said. The search operation at Dhokawale was completed on Saturday night, as per the district administration and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). (PTI)

Touring flood hit Konkan region with PMs consent: Rane

The union minister Narayan Rane on Sunday is visiting the flood ravaged Konkan region in Maharashtra. Rane is accompanied by opposition in state assembly Devendra Fadnavis and opposition leader in state council Pravin Darekar. 
 
Rane recently took the charge as union minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises ( MSME) in the prime minister Narendra Modi government at centre. 
 
Rane said, "  My tour to flood affected Konkan region has the consent of PM. I took his his permission before setting out on tour." He also informed, " Along with me are my colleagues former CM and opposition leader in assembly  Devendra Fadnavis and opposition leader in council Pravin Darekar. "
 
Chiplum in Ratnagiri Ratnagiri district and Mahad in Raigad district in coastal Konkan region were worst hit by floods. In Mahad the village Taliye was buried in the landslide resulting in 49 death.There are still people missing.
 
Rane said, " Floods have played havoc in the coastal districts. The people overnight lost everything. It is extremely painful." 
 
The native of Sindhudurg in Konkan region, Rane has assured allhelp from centre to cope with the devastation in the region caused due to floods. (ENS)

Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray to review flood situation in Chiplun

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray will today tour the flood-hit Chiplun in district Ratnagiri in the Konkan region.

According to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), Thackeray will leave Mumbai for Chiplun at 10 am today. The tour is confined to Chiplun to assess the damage post-flood situation. The trip to flood-ravaged Satara in Western Maharashtra has been cancelled due to bad weather conditions.

The toll in Maharashtra flood climbed to 112 on Saturday, with the number likely to increase as rescue teams are finding more bodies, particularly from the landslide site at Mahad taluka in Raigad district. Karnataka floods: 9 dead, at least 3 missing as rain batters state

112 dead, 99 missing: Many areas cut off, but water receding as rainfall abates

The toll in Maharashtra flood climbed to 112 on Saturday, with the number likely to increase as rescue teams are finding more bodies, particularly from the landslide site at Mahad taluka in Raigad district.

Heavy rains in parts of Karnataka have claimed nine lives, led to landslides in eight places and evacuation of about 9,000 people in the last 24 hours. The government has sounded a Red alert in seven districts.

Widespread heavy to very heavy showers are likely to continue across India's west coast for the next two days, following which the intensity of the rain is likely to reduce.

East and adjoining Central India will also receive heavy to very heavy rains for the next two days, according to the India Meteorological Department's (IMD) latest weather bulletin. Meanwhile, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are predicted to receive heavy rains today, the IMD said. Isolated heavy to very heavy falls are likely in these regions on 25th and 26th July.

The IMD has also predicted an increase in widespread rainfall activity in the northeastern states of India from July 26 onwards.
