Angry Celtic fans swamped the Hotline after the weekend whipping from West Ham.

Ange Postecoglou ’s team were taken apart by the Londoners at Parkhead with six goals being hammered past the hosts.

Celtic need to seriously improve their defending ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League qualifier against FC Midtjylland.

But some punters are enraged at the position manager Postecoglou has been placed into by club chiefs ahead of the game in Denmark.

David Bryce, Troon, said: “I know it was a friendly, however, that was a shocking and embarrassing performance from Celtic. Woeful doesn’t even come close to describing our defence and goalkeeper.

“Ange has the right ideas, but the guy has nothing to work with. Dom McKay and the board are an absolute disgrace for letting us get into such a sorry state. They are incapable of delivering quality players to the manager.”

Stephen Mulhearn, Dumbarton , continued: “After witnessing Celtic being hammered by the Hammers, it was so difficult to take any positives from the game. With the ongoing goalkeeper crisis continuing and Fraser Forster seemingly out of our price range, I would like to think West Ham’s Darren Randolph was under consideration after replacing their No.1 at half time.”

Ian McKendrick emailed to say: “Do Celtic fans still believe they could cut it in the English Premier League after that result?”

Jimmy Murray, Edinburgh, said: “So Ange says anyone that doesn’t want to play for the club can go now. Where have I heard that before? This is the super tough guy who puts up with no nonsense and doesn’t get messed about. Strange as he has had John Kennedy and Gavin Strachan forced on him. By the way, Kennedy is doing his usual bang up job coaching the defence.”

Tam Williamson, Lanarkshire, said: “It’s obvious who is in charge of the Celtic team. Ange will be gone by the end of the season, just like Ronny Deila, Neil Lennon twice and Brendan Rodgers. Yet the same man who worked under all of them is still there pulling the strings and will still be there when the next manager arrives and after he is shown the door also.

“The failure in the club lies in the complete boardroom of directors who obviously don’t know what direction to take and, of course, Dermot Desmond who supported Lennon and Kennedy in the club’s darkest days last season.”

Edward Fraser sent an email which read: “I can see the style of play that the manager wants to play, but unless we sort out our defensive deficiencies starting with the goalkeeping, then we are seriously going to struggle this season.”

Not everyone hated the result. Andy Adams, Kirkcaldy , said: “Celtic 2 West Ham 6! But don’t worry, we’ve got £13.5 million for Ajer and maybe £20 million for Edouard. Things are looking up!”

Samuel Ruddock, Ayr, added: “I remember when Hotline Celtic fans came on with arrogance with their predictions, Winning the Holy Grail of 10 In A Row. A team full of superstars, a bank balance of millions upon millions. Could attract managers like Carlo Ancelotti. Rangers fans like myself took some hammerings when all was well. Now it looks like they have a threadbare squad and, instead of Big Ancelotti, they have Big Angelossi.”
