KRISHNAGIRI: The Krishnagiri district administration on Monday started releasing water from KRP (Krishnagiri Reservoir Project) Dam for irrigation.
After opening the sluice gates of the dam, district collector Dr V Jeyachandra Bhanu Reddy said a total of 9,012 acres of agriculture land in 16 villages -- including Periyamuthur, Sundekuppam, Thimmapuram, Soutaalli, Thalialli, Kalvealli, Kundalapatti, Mittaalli, Erraalli, Penneswaramadam, Kaveripattinam, Balekuli, Marichettihalli, Nagojanaalli, Janapparuralli and Paiyur -- would be benefited.
Water would be released for next 120 days, he added.
“Currently, a total of 180 cusecs of water is being released into the canals. Right bank canal will get 87 cusecs of water while the Left bank canal will get 93 cusecs of water,” the collector said.
According to him, a total of 4,287 acres in the ayacut of the right main canal and about 4,725 acres in the ayacut of the left main canal would be irrigated.
