Collin Morikawa joined elite company with his Open Championship victory at Royal St. George's earlier this month. The 24-year-old American became just the second player in men's golf history to win the Open Championship and PGA Championship before turning 25. The other men's golfer to accomplish that feat is Tiger Woods, who's tied with Sam Snead for the most wins (82) in PGA Tour history. Morikawa can add to his impressive resume this week at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Morikawa's odds improved after Spain's Jon Rahm and USA's Bryson DeChambeau, both among the pre-tournament favorites, dropped out due to a positive COVID-19 test. William Hill Sportsbook lists Morikawa at 7-1 in the 2020 Olympic men's golf odds, followed closely by fellow Americans Xander Schauffele (9-1) and Justin Thomas (9-1). Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy is one of the other top Olympic golf contenders at 11-1. The 14-time PGA Tour champion enters the 2020 Tokyo Olympics ranked 174th in driving accuracy percentage (55.80), which doesn't bode well for his chances to win a medal. Kasumigaseki's East course has trees everywhere and some large, deep bunkers, so his lack of accuracy could get him into a lot of trouble. The 28-year-old American is simply trending in the wrong direction.
