Antiques unearthed in Krishnagiri district

Archaeologists have excavated ancient materials such as metal swords, axe heads, legged jars, spearheads, redware pots, and two other unidentified objects from a site at Mayiladumparai in the district.

The team unearthed five terracotta pots, 1.5 cm wide two copper materials, two iron swords, axe heads, and a spearhead.
KRISHNAGIRI: Archaeologists have excavated ancient materials such as metal swords, axe heads, legged jars, spearheads, redware pots, and two other unidentified objects from a site at Mayiladumparai in the district.
A senior archaeologist said they had started the excavation activities at Mayiladumparai to identify the Megalith and Neolithic period peoples’ culture.
“We dug up a specific spot after removing a 3.88-meter boulder.
We spotted the objects at a depth of 1.42 meters." The team unearthed five terracotta pots, 1.5 cm wide two copper materials, two iron swords, axe heads, and a spearhead.
The archaeologists collected the objects and sent them to Chennai for lab tests.
