West Ham manager David Moyes has provided an update on the club's pursuit of Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard.

The 28-year-old attacking midfielder was exceptional during a six-month loan spell with the Hammers, scoring nine goals and registering four assists in 16 games in the Premier League.

Lingard 's form helped the east London side secure Europa League football for the coming season, which convinced the club's hierarchy to try and secure him on a permanent deal.

Manchester United are looking for around £30m to let their academy starlet leave the club, despite him having just one year remaining on his current deal at the club.

The asking price has seen West Ham take their time over a potential deal and manager Moyes has spoken publicly about the club's transfer dealings so far this summer.

Speaking to reporters when asked about any potential deals, the former United boss said: "We need to get more competition (in the squad), that’s the important thing if we want to keep the standards up.

"But I’ll tell you what we’ve got and that’s a great group of lads.

"I’m really lucky because we’ve got a group of lads who are right on it, foot to the metal all of the time so hopefully we keep that going.

"We’ll find out what we can do in the future but we’ve got no great update at all."

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer revealed that Lingard is currently in the club's plans for the upcoming season after his performances away from Old Trafford last season, although that is likely to change if they receive an offer that matches their asking price.

Lingard has featured in both pre-season friendlies so far this summer, scoring the opening goal in the 4-2 defeat by QPR on Saturday afternoon.
