MALDA: Eleven Trinamool Congress panchayat members, who had moved a no-confidence motion against the pradhan, were allegedly abducted by another faction of the party in Harishchandrapur here on Tuesday. Police have begun investigation following a complaint lodged by the BDO.
Twelve TMC members, led by Pintu Yadab, had brought the no-confidence notice against pradhan Najibur Rahman over alleged financial irregularities.
The signatories were called by the BDO for verification. As soon as they reached the BDO office, an armed gang abducted 11 members. They were allegedly led by youth TMC leader Ashraful Haque. Violence erupted between two groups before police reached the spot.
BDO Bijay Giri conceded that the members were abducted from his office. “Police are looking at CCTV footage,” he said.
