Bodies of 17 deceased of Barabanki accident being brought to Bihar

Bodies of 17 bus passengers who were killed in a tragic road mishap near Ram Sanehi Ghat in Uttar Pradesh’s Barabanki district on Wednesday early morning, are being brought to Bihar under police protection at the directive of CM Nitish Kumar.

PATNA: Bodies of 17 bus passengers who were killed in a tragic road mishap near Ram Sanehi Ghat in Uttar Pradesh’s Barabanki district on Wednesday early morning, are being brought to Bihar under police protection at the directive of CM Nitish Kumar.
These 17 deceased persons who were returning home by the ill-fated Bihar-bound bus from Haryana and Punjab, hail from different districts of north Bihar mainly Darbhanga, Madhubani, Muzaffarpur and Sitamarhi.


So far, a total 18 deaths have been reported by UP Police in this accident. The death toll may rise as more than 25 people are seriously injured and hospitalized at different hospitals in Barabanki district.
"Altogether 17 bodies are being brought to Bihar in seven ambulances and necessary arrangements are being made to take them to their respective houses at different places in Bihar," a statement issued from the office of Bihar CM on Wednesday late night, said.
"CM Nitish Kumar is deeply saddened over the incident and he is keeping a close vigil on the situation ever since news about the unfortunate mishap reached Patna. The CM is personally monitoring the situation so that family members of deceased persons do not face any difficulty," the statement issued from the CM office, reads.


“Officers of Bihar government have reached the place of accident in Barabanki district and they were making all necessary coordination with the local administration for proper treatment of injured passengers hailing from north Bihar,” a Bihar government official told TOI on Wednesday.
Earlier in the day, Nitish Kumar announced a financial assistance of Rs two lakh each to the next of kin of all Bihar residents who were killed in the tragic road accident in Barabanki.
Taking to his Twitter account Nitish said, “The road accident that took place in Barabanki is very saddening. My heartiest condolences to the families of the deceased. Wishing for the speedy recovery of the people who are injured.”
“Next kin of the deceased persons who were residents of Bihar, would be paid Rs two lakh each. Necessary coordination with Uttar Pradesh government for proper treatment of the injured persons and bringing them to Bihar, was being done. Officers of Bihar government are also being sent to the spot,” Nitish said in a statement in the afternoon.
The tragic accident took place after a truck rammed into a double-decker bus near Ram Sanehi Ghat in Uttar Pradesh’s Barabanki. The private bus was on its way to north Bihar carrying passengers from Haryana and Punjab when it stopped on the side of the road for a major repair. The bus driver had asked the passengers to rest while he was repairing the bus.
Many of the passengers were standing on the road after getting off the bus when the truck rammed it from behind.
