Dumbarton couple Pat and Liz O’Brien recently marked 50 golden years together putting their happy and marriage down to enjoying spending time with one another.

The duo were delighted to welcome Provost William Hendrie along to their home at Braeside Drive to join in the celebrations to mark the special occasion.

Originally from Dumbarton, Pat moved to Luton for work where he lived with his brother Jimmy.

It was very much a family affair as it was while there he met Liz who was friends with his brother’s then girlfriend (now wife).

They were married in Luton and stayed there for a few years.

It was there that they welcomed their first two children Catherine and Chris.

They moved back to Dumbarton several years later and had Anne-Marie.

The couple, who love spending time with their family, are also proud grandparents to Nicola, Amy, Emma, Maria, Dominic and Caitlyn.

Catherine has lived in Portsmouth with her husband Raymond and daughter for the past 24 years, while Chris and his wife Lynnette, Anne-Marie and her husband Steven and children still live in Dumbarton.

Daughter Catherine told of the pastimes they enjoy sharing together.

She said: “They love having their family around and this year will be very special as we have not all been able to be together for the past 18 months.

“They spend time in the garden and both are members of the local gym, where they visit regularly.

“They have spent a lot of time out on local walks over the past year or so and love getting out and about and meeting friends.

“Mum and dad enjoy travelling and love their holidays.

“They have spent many years visiting family in South Africa, sharing holidays with us children and their grandchildren in Florida and Europe and also spent time in New Zealand.”

Letting us in on their secret to a long and happy marriage, Catherine added: “They love their family and enjoy nothing more than when we can all get together.

“They have supported and encouraged us over the years but probably most importantly they really enjoy spending time together.”
