Lockdown in Tamilnadu extended without additional relaxations

The existing Covid-19 lockdown in Tamilnadu has been extended with no additional relaxations till 6am on 9 August, the state government announced on Friday.

The decision to extend the curfew came following a review meeting chaired by Chief Minister MK Stalin earlier in the day, as the existing norms are scheduled to end at 6am on Saturday (31 July).

The Chief Minister, in his statement, directed District Collectors and the police to take stringent steps to implement the guidelines issued by the government for containing COVID-19.

Stalin left it to the discretion of the District Collectors/Municipal Commissioners and the police to decide about sealing areas if people continue to gather in large numbers.

Stalin also appealed to the people not to step out of their houses unnecessarily and avoid gathering in a crowd to prevent the infection spreading further.
