Will come back to Delhi every 2 months: Mamata Banerjee

New Delhi: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, who was on 5-day visit to Delhi, said that she will be come to the national capital “every two months,” with an aim to bring the opposition parties together to fight the BJP.
The Trinamool Congress chief who was in the national capital since Monday had been holding deliberations with the opposition parties for forming a united front for the 2024 general elections.
Mamata also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday.
Banerjee spoke to NCP chief Sharad Pawar on the phone before leaving.
She also met Congress interim chief Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and other Congress leaders from Congress during her visit.
“Today I talked to Sharad (Pawar) ji, he is going to Mumbai. Next time we will be meeting. I think my visit is successful. We met for political and development purposes. We will work together to save democracy. If democracy is under threat, then the country is under threat. Our slogan is Loktantra Bachao, Desh Bachao. I will come to Delhi every 2 months,” she told the media before leaving for the airport.
Making it very clear that she wants to play an active role in bringing the opposition parties together to oust the Modi regime, she had said at an interaction with the media on Wednesday that “I want to help bell the cat.”
Speaking about united opposition front, she said, “nothing can be better if we can achieve a political unity, joining hands together. I couldn't meet all leaders this time, met many of them and the outcome is good. Let us work together. Desh ko bachana hai (we have to save the country).”
“Rising oil prices is a major concern... the Centre has taken Rs 3.7 lakh crore from the people by raising petrol, diesel, gas prices. Farmers are on the roads for months, unemployment is rising drastically, the Covid situation rising, nobody knows what will happen if the third wave of the pandemic sets in. I have told the Prime Minister to please ensure that the third wave of Covid-19 doesn't hit us and that the people must get vaccinated,” she added.
Banerjee, who was nominated as the parliamentary party chairman of TMC just before she arrived in Delhi, has told her party MPs that the most important issues to take up against the government in Parliament includes “Pegasus snooping issue, demanding the repeal of the three farm laws, price rise and unemployment.”
She had to skip her meeting with President Ram Nath Kovind, since the meeting would require RTPCR test and she had said that it would be difficult for her to get it done here at such a short notice.
