Chamarajanagar, Chikkamagaluru slap curbs on tourists

With the Covid positivity rate inching up to worrying levels, Chamarajanagar and Chikkamagaluru districts on Monday announced restrictions on weekend tourism and made RT-PCR negative certificates mandatory to stay in resorts and lodges in these two districts.

MYSURU: With the Covid positivity rate inching up to worrying levels, Chamarajanagar and Chikkamagaluru districts on Monday announced restrictions on weekend tourism and made RT-PCR negative certificates mandatory to stay in resorts and lodges in these two districts.
Chamarajanagar deputy commissioner MR Ravi, who visited areas bordering Kerala along with other senior officials, has banned weekend tourism till August 15 after reports said the twin waterfalls in the district -- Bharachukki and Hogenakkal – and tiger reserves witnessed huge footfall over the weekend.

Forest safaris have been banned on Saturdays and Sundays. Those going on safari during weekdays must produce a negative certificate not older than 72 hours.
The DC has asked heads of government departments to cancel events such as groundbreaking ceremony and inauguration to avoid gathering of crowds. Only 100 guests are allowed for marriages, and not more than 20 can attend funerals. Chikkamagaluru DC KN Ramesh made an appeal to tourists to not visit the district because of an increase in the number of Covid-19 cases.
He said those who have already made reservations at resorts and homestays can “arrive at their own risk” with Covid-negative certificates not older than 72 hours.
The administration has set up checkposts at Kottigehara, Jannapura, Magadi, Tanikod and Begar to screen those arriving into the district. According to the state war room data as on August 1, Chikkamagaluru district recorded a 4% positivity rate, Kodagu 3%, Hassan, Shivamogga and Chamarajanagar districts recorded 2% positivity rate each.
