FACT CHECK: Old news viral to claim Kejriwal slashed diesel price by Rs 8.36/lt in Delhi

CLAIM
An ABP News graphic card is being circulated to claim that Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has cut diesel prices in the city by Rs 8.36 per litre. It further claims that diesel will be sold at Rs 73.64/lt in national capital now.

The graphic card bears the logo of ABP News and shows that date as July 30 in the bottom right corner.

The ‘BREAKING NEWS’ screengrab has gone viral across social media platforms.


TRUTH
The graphic card is one year old. The news is from last year, when on July 30, 2020, the Delhi government reduced the then diesel price from Rs 82 to Rs 73.64, ie: by Rs 8.36 per litre.
The current diesel price in Delhi stands at Rs 89.87 per litre.
VERIFICATION AND METHODOLOGY
Using relevant keywords, we used Google search engine to find any credible news about diesel price reduction by Kejriwal in Delhi. We found none.
On using time filter search on Google, we found that the Kejriwal government had reduced diesel price by Rs 8.36/lt last year on July 30.
As per a news report from Times of India, the Delhi government on July 30, 2020 decided to reduce VAT (value-added tax) on diesel from 30 per cent to 16.75 per cent. The announcement was made by CM Kejriwal after a cabinet meeting.

This reduction in the VAT rate helped bring down the price of diesel to Rs 73.64 per litre.

On looking up videos posted by ABP News on July 30, 2020 on its official YouTube channel, we found the video from which the above screengrab is lifted. It is titled as ‘Delhi: Diesel Price Slashed By Rs 8.36 Per Litre: CM Arvind Kejriwal | Full PC | ABP News’ and published on July 30, 2020.

At 2.41 in the video, one can see the exact same graphic card which is now going viral with misleading claims.
We looked up the present diesel price in Delhi and found it to be Rs 89.87 and not Rs 73.64 per litre.
VERDICT
Times Fact Check has found that an old graphic card is being shared to mislead people. The card claims that the Kejriwal government has recently slashed diesel price by Rs 8.36 per litre in Delhi.
