KANPUR: In an unusual incident which took place on Monday in Farrukhabad district, a groom and other members of the marriage party took off their clothes to cross their village inundated with flood water and reach the approach road. Now, photos of the groom along with the guests are going viral across the social media sites.
The marriage of one Monis, son of Yasin Khan of Majra Pankhian Madaiya village of Farrukhabad, was to be solemnised with the daughter of Ghafoor, a resident of Shuklaganj, Unnao on Monday evening.
The ‘baraat’ (marriage procession) was supposed to reach Unnao by Monday afternoon.
However, seeing the scene of the village, which was submerged with flood water, it was quite a difficult task. All the ‘baraatis’ in the procession including the groom were disappointed.
However, after some time the groom, who was more eager for marriage, decided to wade through the flood waters. In order to save wedding attire from getting spoiled, he took off his pants and gave them to his relatives to wade through the muddy waters in underpant. So did the majority of the ‘baraatis’.
As the ‘baraatis’ came on the road, they dressed up and headed straight for Unnao where the wedding was solemnized.
The groom told local reporters that he was scared at first because he thought he was going to miss his marriage and his bride-to-be would not go through with the ceremony due to the flood.
The rise in the water level of the Ganga has affected several areas of the district that have been cut off in the past few days.
Nisar Ahmed, a local, told reporters that due to the flood in the Ganga, the village is completely marooned in water. “Apprehensive that they will miss the marriage ceremony, the groom and the ‘baraatis’ after taking off their attires wade through the flood water,” he said.
Villagers demanded authorities that concrete arrangements should be made to avoid the precarious situation that comes every year due to floods in the Ganga.
