MYSURU: As Covid-19 positive cases are increasing in neighbouring Kerala and Tamil Nadu, the border district of Chamarajanagar has ramped up testing while also focusing more on the vaccination drive.
The district administration has asked health authorities to step up vigil at all 170 border villages coming under the limits of nine primary health centres.
As per the directions from deputy commissioner MR Ravi, health authorities have extended priority to achieve 100% vaccination coverage in the border villages by inoculating all people aged above 18.

Instructions have been given to district nodal officer for vaccination Dr M Visvesraiah to ensure sufficient doses of vaccine to primary health centres of border villages.
As daily Covid cases have dropped to 20-40 cases in the last 25 days, district health authorities were conducting only 1,100 to 1,200 tests. After the outbreak of cases in the neighbouring states in the last 15 days, the authorities have increased testing of all symptomatic cases to 2,000 per day at 65 primary health centres, community health hospitals and the district hospital.
Priority has been given to conduct 70% RTPCR test and 30% RAT. Covid testing has been intensified in the containment zones. Instructions have been given to taluk health officers and district surveillance officer to regularly monitor the cases and infection rate in areas reporting more number of cases and recommend the covid patients to avail treatment at designated covid care centres.
Speaking to TOI, district health officer Dr MC Ravi said the district kept all its 16 covid care centres open.
Presently, the district is ensuring treatment for covid patients only in two CCCs including the one at the district hospital.
