Namakkal dalit youth murder accused Yuvaraj gets jail term in emu scam case

COIMBATORE: The prime accused in a dalit youth murder case in Namakkal district of Tamil Nadu has been sentenced to ten years imprisonment in another case.
Special court for the Tamil Nadu Protection of Interests of Depositors (TNPID) Act, Coimbatore, has sentenced S Yuvaraj, 41, to ten years’ imprisonment in connection with an emu scam. Two more men were sentenced to ten years imprisonment in connection with the case.
The court slapped a fine of Rs 2.47 crore on them.
Yuvaraj is the prime accused in the 2015 murder of Gokulraj, which was a case of honour killing.
IN 2011, Yuvaraj of Iveli near Akkamapettai in Salem district, S Thamizhnesan, 34, of Thiruvenkitampalayampudur near Perundurai in Erode district and C Vasu, 52, of Nehru Street at Soorampatti in Erode district started Suthi Emu Farms, Suthi Emu Farms Private Limited and Suthi Emu Farms and Hosieries at Perundurai. Yuvaraj was functioning as director of emu farms, Tamilselvan was his business partner and Vasu was the manager of the firm.
The firm announced two schemes to lure the investors. As per the first scheme, if people invested Rs 1.5 lakh, the firm would provide six emu chicks and feed and would install a shed to rear the emu chicks. The firm also would provide Rs 7,000 to the investors for monthly returns for 24 months and Rs 20,000 as bonus for per year. After 24 months, the investor would get back the capital investment amount also.
As per the second scheme, if people invested Rs 1.5 lakh, the firm would rear six chicks and provide Rs 8,000 to the investors for monthly returns for 24 months. After two years, the investors would get their capital investment amount. As many as 121 people from Salem, Erode, Namakkal and neighbouring districts invested Rs 2.70 crore in the emu firms, but they were not given any monthly returns.

T P Palanisamy of Tiruchengode in Namakkal district, who was cheated of by the firm, lodged a complaint with the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) police in September 2012 and the police registered a case against the firms and Yuvaraj, Tamizhnesan and Vasu under sections 120 (b) (criminal conspiracy), 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 5 of the TNPID Act. The police arrested the trio and the case trial was held at the special court for TNPID cases.
Yuvaraj was brought to the TNPID court from Madurai Central Prison. Vasu appeared before the court on Thursday. Judge A S Ravi pronounced the judgement. Tamizhnesan did not appear before the court, and the court issued a non-bailable warrant against him.
