Odisha: Sundargarh stadium to boost hockey in region

Construction of the Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium, which will be India’s largest hockey stadium, Rourkela, and the astro-turf facilities in all 17 blocks are expected to be a big boost for development of hockey in Sundargarh district, known to be the cradle of hockey.

BHUBANESWAR: Construction of the Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium, which will be India’s largest hockey stadium, Rourkela, and the astro-turf facilities in all 17 blocks are expected to be a big boost for development of hockey in Sundargarh district, known to be the cradle of hockey.
A high-level delegation of the state government is expected to visit Rourkela next week to review progress of construction of the hockey stadium.

The Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium is the second venue along with Kalinga Stadium for the forthcoming men’s world cup, which Odisha will host for the second time in a row. Around Rs 120 crore is being spent by the government for state-of-the-art structure with 20,000 seats which has been planned to offer unparalleled sporting experience for spectators and players during the match.
