VARANASI: In a heartening gesture, SP Jaunpur Ajay Sahani on Thursday presented a cheque for Rs 1 lakh to the widow of the cash van security guard Ramawadh Chaubey, who was shot dead by two looters after he foiled their loot bid on August 9. The money was given by the additional chief secretary (home) as cash reward to the police team that gunned down the looters in less than 14 hours of Chaubey’s killing.
Sahani said that the cops involved in the encounter with the looters had requested him to give the reward amount to Chaubey’s family as an honour for the courage shown by him in foiling the loot bid by sacrificing his own life.

Accepting the request of the police team, Sahani called Chaubey’s wife and other family members to felicitate them and handed over the cheque. Though the family of the security guard was still in a state of shock, the SP and other officials consoled them and assured all possible help.
ASP (rural) Tribhuvan Singh said, “The police and district administration are exploring ways, including different government schemes, under which the family of Chaubey can be benefited. The officials of the agency that had the contract of refilling cash in ATMs and had engaged Chaubey as a security guard, have also been contacted to inform whether its staff are covered with insurance and what sort of financial support will be extended to his family by them.”
Chaubey (45) of Madiyahu was killed in an exchange of fire with two looters while foiling their bid to loot cash at the time of refilling an ATM in Dhaniamau market under Baksha police station on August 9. Both the looters had also suffered pellet injuries in Chaubey’s firing. Later, the cops eliminated both the looters in an exchange of fire in Singramau on August 10 morning.
