Karnataka: Dengue cases on the rise in Kalaburagi

The rains amid the pandemic has triggered a sudden surge in dengue cases in Kalaburagi, worrying the health department officials. Over 100 dengue cases were registered in the district since January. Of these, 35 cases were recorded in July alone.

KALABURAGI: The rains amid the pandemic has triggered a sudden surge in dengue cases in Kalaburagi, worrying the health department officials. Over 100 dengue cases were registered in the district since January. Of these, 35 cases were recorded in July alone. In August (till Tuesday), 12 dengue cases recorded in the district.
In a bid to raise awareness among residents, the district health department has launched door to door awareness campaigns.
The department has also started spraying insecticides to stop mosquitoes from breeding at several localities in the city.
Kalaburagi district health and family welfare officer Sharanabasappa Ganajalkhed told TOI that dengue patients are being given free treatment at government hospitals in the district. “Those with dengue symptoms must approach the government hospitals for free testing and treatment,” he added.
Dengue fever can result in a drop in your white blood cell and platelet counts. The normal platelet count in the body ranges from 1.5lakh to 4lakh, this can go down to as low as 20,000 to 40,000 in the case of dengue patients, he added further.
“Hence, the patients must approach hospital as soon as possible and must not delay admission.”
“We have issued guidelines to private hospitals to send the blood samples to the Public Health Laboratory. If there is need for blood transfusion, then may refer to government hospitals,” he said.
