Falmouth College said students can be proud of their hard work over the pandemic as they received an "excellent" set of grades for their A-level and A-level equivalent Level 3 BTEC results this morning.
These results are the culmination of two years of studies for most students and the final stage of Falmouth College study before going onto the next steps of their careers.
The school said it was clear that students have maintained their studies whilst in lockdown as they attained great results across the full range of courses. University places, employment and further training opportunities depend upon these results. This year the results have been based only on teacher assessments which followed Government guidance.
Dr Matt Fox, head of Falmouth College, said: “We are extremely proud of all the hard work that these students have put in over the years they have been with us. They are a great group of young people who have shown resilience during these difficult times.
"The pandemic has been difficult for all students but we hope that with these well-deserved grades that they can move on to their next phase and think of the all great times they had at Falmouth College.”
Francine Atkinson, deputy head of college, agreed: “Teachers and support staff have welcomed students back to college on this momentous day and it was great to see smiles on their faces. We have supported and reassured both our Year 12 and Year 13 students throughout these challenging two years and it is great to congratulate them properly before they leave us for exciting destinations."
Brendan has secured a place at University of Southampton studying mechanical engineering with his three A*s, while Eva achieved two A*s and an A and is going on to study mechanical engineering at University of Bristol.
Alex achieved AAA and is going to University of Bristol to study mathematics, Freddie achieved AA and a Distinction* and will be going to University of Exeter to study physics with astrophysics, while Hannah achieved the top grade in Early Years Education and a Distinction* in applied science, and has been offered a place at London South Bank University to study Children’s Nursing.
Izzy has secured a place at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama with her A*A and Distinction*, Rosie obtained four qualifications – A*AB and Distinction* – and is going to Exeter to study mathematics, Sophia is taking up her place at University of the West of England to read creative and professional writing, and Jake is taking up his place at Liverpool John Moores to study psychology with his A* in psychology A-level.
The college said it was pleased that a number of students were going to be studying at local universities, with Alfie, Owen and Jacob at Falmouth University and four going to Exeter University.
Falmouth's Football Scholarship programme run by Plymouth Argyle at Carn Brea produced great results, and Nathan will be going to Plymouth Marjon to study sport rehabilitation and conditioning, while Callum will be taking his place at University of Portsmouth for sport and exercise Science.
The college said: "Many other students also performed really well and this is another set of excellent results for our students who have worked really hard to achieve success, supported by their families and Falmouth School and College staff. All students were offered a chance to meet their teachers at Falmouth College today to celebrate and discuss their next steps.
"All of our students have worked really hard, we are very proud of their achievements and wish each of them every success in the future."
