UP: Miscreants open fire at deputy jailor of Etawah district jail

KANPUR: Panic prevailed on the premises of Etawah district Jail after some unidentified assailants opened indiscriminate fire on deputy jailor SH Jafri during the wee hours of Saturday.
Deputy jailor however escaped unhurt as he took cover in his official residence. By the time the security personnel present in the jail premises could understand something, the assailants fled the spot.
Deputy jailor SH Jafri had left for the jail from his official residence at around 3.30 pm to attend the morning shift.
Just a hundred meters away from the barracks of the jail, three or four people were seen standing between the house and the jail, on which he tried to check them. As soon as he challenged them, the miscreants started abusing and later opened fire at him. Jafri fled to his residence after the firing incident.
Even after entering the residence, the miscreants chased and tried to open the door. When the door was not opened, the miscreants fired several shots at the door.
Later, circle officer (City) Rakesh Vashisht reached along with heavy police force but by then the miscreants had fled.
According to jail superintendent Raj Kishore Singh, the attack on the deputy jailor could be the handiwork of some jail inmates, it is being investigated.
SSP Brijesh Kumar Singh inspected the spot and talked to the deputy jailor. He told reporters according to the complaint being given by the deputy jailor, a case will be registered. "Four police teams have been formed to nab the assailants," SSP added.
Deputy jailor SH Jafri was attacked by a miscreant at his residence about two years ago as well. Then he overpowered the crook. Even then the miscreant had resorted to firing and managed to flee.
