A former Scots uni professor has died after an accident in Colombia.

Tim Cloudsley was a Professor in Glasgow Caledonian University's Department of Sociology for two decades, lecturing between 1977 and 1997.

The poet, sociologist and writer's death came as a result of falling at his home in the Santander region of Colombia, where he'd lived for 16 years, a couple of months ago.

The bad accident left him with a hip injury at the time, according to local radio station, Caracol Radio.

After 20 years teaching students in Glasgow, Prof. Cloudsley moved to Bucaramanga.

It was there that the English-born scholar took on the role of Professor at The Industrial University of Santander's School of Languages, reports Glasgow Live.

He published numerous books and articles in major global scientific magazines in the fields of social theory sociology of culture, anthropology and history of the different indigenous groups in South America.

The esteemed professor also worked for Survival International, an organisation that fights for the rights of indigenous natives, including those of South America.

He is survived by wife, Esperanza.
