Maharashtra: Explosion at Palghar factory leaves two employees dead, five injured

The sound of the explosion was so loud that it was heard four to five kilometers away. The explosion triggered a major fire at the unit located in Tarapur MIDC, Boisar, an officer said.

An explosion in a factory at Tarapur industrial area in Palghar led to the death of two men and injured five others working in the unit on Saturday morning.

The deceased have been identified as Mithilesh Rajwanshi (34) and Chhotelal Saroj (36).

Officials said the incident took place at Jakharia Industries around 6 am. Around 300 people work in the factory.

“The explosion took place at the thermic fluid heater used to circulate hot thermic fluid for drying textiles. It contains fire chambers in which temperature of 250 degrees Celsius is maintained by burning coal,” said an official.

The fire brigade managed to douse the blaze around 7 am.

“The sound of the explosion was so loud that it could be heard from a distance of four to five km. The thermic fluid heater, boiler and factory windows were damaged,” said an official from Palghar district disaster management unit.
